The Paintings of Louis Fried

The paintings of Louis Fried not only represents the artistic accomplishments of one individual, but also the immigrant experience.  Louis Fried and his wife Helen left Minsk, Russia in 1909 as teenagers, where they married and raised a family over the course of five generations has devoted itself to the arts, education, science and the service to others. 

 

Louis Fried was a self taught painter.  After an entrepreneurial career in retail, he was half paralyzed by a stroke at the age of 56.  A unique approach to physical therapy included pressing copper foil into shapes, which awakened his interest in art making.  Encouraged by the painter Solomon Lerner, an close friend, Louis Fired painted landscapes inspired by his travels to places like Lake Champlain in Vermont, which he called the “noisy little sea.”
