The St. Johnsbury Players present Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy, “Harvey.”
Elwood P. Dowd (Erik Volk) is a charming eccentric with an invisible friend named Harvey, a pooka who resembles an anthropomorphic rabbit. Elwood’s friendship with Harvey perturbs his socialite sister, Veta (Lora Schofield), who fears it will prevent her from finding a suitable husband for her daughter, Myrtle Mae (Jordan Timmons). She decides to commit Elwood to the Chumley’s Rest Sanitarium, which is run by the psychiatrist Dr. Chumley (Douglas McGown) with the help of his nurse, Ruth Kelly (Ursula Malabre-Speicher) and his strong-armed orderly, Wilson (Dan Jones). When the younger Dr. Sanderson (Terry Klein) mistakenly commits Veta instead of Elwood, a frantic search for Elwood and his invisible companion ensues.
Rounding out the cast are William Hyde as Judge Omar Gaffney, Marianne Barnett as Mrs. Ethel Chauvent, Jo Oliver as Betty Chumley, Geoffrey Farnsworth as E.J. Lofgren, and Kassandra Farnsworth as Miss Johnson.
Refreshments will be available for sale. Refreshment proceeds will be donated to the Vermont Elks Association’s Silver Towers camp in memory of longtime Players member Kim Wood. Donations will benefit the camp scholarship fund.
