The carved wooden sculptures featured in the Main Gallery exhibition Nick Edmonds: Pastoral display the artist’s engagement with the abstract elements of representational landscape. Born in Boston in 1937, Nick Edmonds graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where he taught before going on to teach at Boston University from 1965 until his retirement in 2003. Twice honored by the National Academy of Design, he also received grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a Fulbright for study in Japan and a St. Gaudens Fellowship. He has exhibited widely and his work appears in numerous private and public collections, including the New Britain Museum of Art, New Britain, CT; the Boston Public Library; and the National Academy of Design, NYC.
